The most important things to know about balancing are

1. Balance is necessary: Weight imbalances in each wheel/tire assembly are almost inevitable.
2. Balance changes over time: As the tire wears, the balance changes slowly and dynamically over time. For example, most good tyre positions are expected to be rebalanced during tyre rotations, or a second season when changing winter/summer tyres. Rebalancing a tyre at least once during its life will almost certainly extend its life.
3. Balance only fixes balance: Balance does not prevent vibration caused by bent wheels, unrounded tires, or irregular wear. The balance weight does not compensate for the actual physical nature of the problem, only for the weight difference.
